Kremlin Notes Unsettled Talks Amid Armenia’s Election Outcome
During a media briefing in Moscow, Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov explained that there are currently “no firm agreements” concerning the meeting. He emphasized that the official results of Armenia’s parliamentary vote, conducted over the weekend, have not yet been formally released.
“You know that many voters are planning to contest the results, there will be a recount, and so on. So, it's quite a long and complicated process,” Zakharova remarked, highlighting the challenges surrounding the electoral aftermath.
Approximately 1.47 million of Armenia’s 2.5 million citizens participated in the election, casting their votes at 2,005 polling stations nationwide. This represented a turnout of nearly 59%.
According to preliminary figures from Armenia’s Central Election Commission (CEC), Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party obtained 49.82% of the ballots. Its nearest rival, the Strong Armenia party, led by billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, secured 23.28%.
In an earlier statement this week, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova asserted that the parliamentary election took place under Western involvement and “unprecedented pressure” directed at the opposition.
